Personal History

Marley Beers was born in Pennsylvania, but has lived in many other states and in Sierra Leone and Liberia, West Africa. She is a painter, graphic designer and jewelry maker. She works in watercolor, oil, pastel, on a computer, and for jewelry—in clay, metal, glass, and natural stone. She is also an avid gardener and environmentalist. She has been a Peace Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone, West Africa, an environmental educator for the National Park Service, had her own design business in Washington, DC, owned and operated a country inn, and is now a graphic designer for People Designs in Durham, NC, when not in her studio or garden at home.

vision and purpose

Jewelry, for me, should reflect quality and permanence–even when whimsical in design. It should be comfortable, have good workmanship, and be made of the best possible materials for the price. It should become a keepsake for its owner and retain its value over time.

influential experiences and work

Years of work studying and teaching ecology and environmental education. Living in Sierra Leone, West Africa, as a Peace Corps volunteer. Forty years training, breeding and caring for horses and other animals. Working with my friends and mentors, Russel Wright, Larry Halprin and Rene Dubos.
